More than 20,000 people have submitted comments to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. What began as a technical alert has turned into a viral clamor on social media. We have sent a resounding message to the Ministry: hunting dogs are not production animals and we will not allow them to be stripped of the protection they deserve.
Why does this matter?
The Ministry's draft proposal aims to use an ambiguous concept to place hunting dogs under livestock regulations. This could represent a historic setback, allowing thousands of animals to continue living in unacceptable conditions, outside the scope of animal protection law.
Thanks to the participation of at least 19,657 people, we have made it clear that:
- Hunting dogs are NOT production animals: they are companion animals and deserve the same legal protection as all dogs equally.
- No to legal uncertainty: We cannot allow each autonomous community to interpret the law as it sees fit when lives are at stake.
What happens now? (The road doesn't end here)
The prior public consultation closed on February 11th. The Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) is now legally obligated to analyze all our observations before drafting the final text.
- Analysis: The Ministry must study the 20,000 submissions.
- Drafting: They will prepare a draft Royal Decree, taking into account (we hope) the public pressure.
- Public Information: When the text is ready, there will be a second phase for formal allegations. We will announce it on our social media channels to act again.
Your support is our driving force. Actions like this demonstrate that when we unite, we are the most powerful lobby: the one for ethics and compassion.
